Dennis P. Laffin

September 21, 1947 – March 25, 2024

           Dennis P. Laffin, 76, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024, at his home in Mishawka. He was born on September 21, 1947, in South Bend to the late Lawrence R. and Ruth (Bourn) Laffin.

            Dennis grew up in Mishawaka and graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1966. Subsequently, he began his college education at Indiana University South Bend (IUSB).  In 1969, Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Army.  Upon his discharge in 1971, he resumed his education at IUSB, completing his BA degree in Psychology in 1974. Dennis worked as a caseworker for the Indiana Department of Public Welfare and retired from there. He was also a long-time member of Twin Branch Bible Church and served on the board there for many years.

            Joining the Boy Scouts at a young age, Dennis held a lifelong love for scouting. He enjoyed mentoring young scouts and worked as Camp Commissioner at the Boy Scout summer camp. Dennis also served for several years as the Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 555 of the LaSalle Council. The many awards he received for his work with the Boy Scouts, included: God and Country (as a youth), District Award of Merit, the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow, the Order of the Arrow National Founder’s Award, and the George Award from the Mishawaka Enterprise.

            Dennis is survived by his brothers Jack Laffin, Gary (Mary) Laffin and sisters Linda Laffin, Carolyn (Duane) Gundy, and by several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his brother Larry Laffin.

            No visitation is planned. However, a memorial service to honor Dennis’s life is scheduled for 1 PM on Saturday, April 6th at Twin Branch Bible Church, 3807 Vistula Road, Mishawaka. Dennis will be interred at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka has been entrusted with the final arrangements.
